- Rachel's fiancé, who she leaves at the altar because he looks like Mr Potato Head. He bursts in on Ross and Rachel in episode 1.19 and declares his love for Rachel. He later marries her one time best friend Mindy.

Ben
- Ross's son with Carol. The name comes from that on the overalls Phoebe found when she, Ross and Susan were locked in a cupboard during the birth. Ben is born in episode 1.23, Chandler and Joey lose him on a bus in episode 2.6 and he says his first word ("hi") in episode 2.20.

Carol Willick
- Ross's first wife who turns out to be a lesbian. She's also a teacher.

Chip Matthews
-takes Rachel to the prom in a flashback in episode 2.14 and abandons her. In episode 4.2 Monica goes out with him and then dumps him.

- Ross's monkey, who first appears in episode 1.10 but has to leave when he becomes sexually mature and tries to mate with everything and everyone. Ross finds him again in episode 2.12 when he is in New York filming Outbreak 2. Marcel is also the star of the Monkeyshine beer adverts.

Michael
-has a ruinous date with Rachel in episode 2.7, as she gets very drunk and will only talk about Ross's cat.

Mindy
- Rachel's former best friend, who marries Barry in episode 2.24. After Rachel left Barry at the altar and was living with Monica, she found out that Barry had taken Mindy on their honeymoon. In episode 1.20 Rachel meets Barry again and ends up having sex with him. She thinks Mindy has found out but Mindy only wants Rachel to be her maid of honour. Mindy admits having had an affair with Barry during his engagement to Rachel, then Rachel admits her affair. But Mindy marries him anyway.

Nora Tyler Bing
- Chandler's novelist mother who appears in episode 1.11

Paolo
-He speaks little English, and they have nothing in common, but he has a certain animal magnetism that Rachel finds irresistible. Ross hates him because he's in love with Rachel and Paolo's cat jumped on Ross just as he was about to ask her out in episode 1.7. He spends a fair amount of time in Rome. He goes out with Rachel (well I say goes out, they just have sex really) in episodes 1.7-1.12. Rachel goes back with him briefly in episode 2.1 after she finds out Ross is in love with her and realises she's in love with him but it's too late as he's now with Julie.

- Dates Monica in episode 1.1 and fools her into sleeping with him

He appears in episodes 1.9, when he won't give Rachel an advance, and 2.6, when he gets Rachel to tell Phoebe that she can't play in Central Perk anymore, and will be replaced by a professional singer (Chrissie Hynde playing Stephanie). Phoebe sings a song about him called 'The Protest Song'

Ugly Naked Guy
- Lives across the street from Rachel and Monica's apartment. He never appears, but is a source of constant amusement to everyone, although Rachel's mother doesn't think much of him (episode 2.11). He gets up to all sorts, like getting a thighmaster (episode 1.2), laying kitchen tiles (episode 1.5) and being visited by Ugly Naked Woman (episode 1.9) He's very very still in episode 3.8 so Joey suggests building a giant poking device out of spaghetti to see if he's dead. He's not. But he is angry. Ugly Naked Guy used to be Cute Naked Guy before he put on weight.

Ursula
- Phoebe's twin sister, who is a waitress and appears in episodes 1.16 and 1.17, when she spurns Joey and it's left to Phoebe to sort it out.
