Ross asks out a beautiful woman who lives in his apartment. Valentine's day is approaching fast and Phoebe considers going out with Roger again despite his innate creepiness, because he's better than nobody. Joey has a date with Lorraine, and asks Chandler to go along with him, because she has a friend. Monica, Rachel and Phoebe are sick of boyfriends like Paolo and Roger, and older ones like Pete the Weeper and Howard the "I Win" Guy, so Phoebe proposes they perform a ritual on Valentine's day to break out of the rut, burning old boyfriends' stuff.
Ross goes out with Kristen, and Lorraine's friend turns out to be Janice. Joey leaves Chandler with Janice at the restaurant, but foolishly leaves his credit card with Chandler, so they get rat-arsed and end up in bed together. Carol and Susan turn up at the restaurant where Ross has taken Kristen. Susan is called away for her work so Carol joins them. Phoebe's ritual requires strange ingredients such as the semen of a righteous man. Photos, letters, and boxer shorts go on the fire, but pouring Paolo's grappa on it turns out to be a bad idea. The firemen say they are used to dealing with boyfriend bonfires. Kristen leaves after Ross spends the whole evening talking to Carol. Chandler tries to break up with Janice again. Carol thinks that Ross will find a woman.
