Chandler dumps a girl for having big nostrils and the others want to know if there's ever been anyone who he dumped for a sensible reason. Mr Heckles complains about the noise, which he says is disturbing his dinner party. He then starts thumping from below with a broom, and the effort to out-thump him proves too successful when he dies from the effort. Phoebe believes his spirit is lingering and when the others doubt this she says that everyone has their own beliefs, like "Ross with his evolution", starting a long argument with Ross. Rachel and Monica are surprised to find that Mr Heckles has left everything to "the noisy girls in the apartment above mine." His apartment, however, is filled with junk. Rachel wants some of it but Monica says it doesn't go with her stuff, and Rachel realises that Monica still thinks of Rachel as a guest in her apartment. Rachel takes a lamp (which Monica hates) upstairs anyway. Ross won't agree to differ with Phoebe over evolution, and Joey finds Mr Heckles' High School year book, filled with surprising information like that he was the class clown and a band member, just like Chandler was at school. Chandler becomes convinced that he is turning into Mr Heckles and will live alone, especially when he finds a box of Mr Heckles' former girlfriends, with comments saying what is wrong with each of them. In desperation he phones Janice, but she's pregnant and married. Phoebe gets Ross to admit that there may be a problem with evolution, and Monica accidentally breaks Rachel's lamp, after trying to get rid of it. After his failure with Janice, Chandler is convinced he'll end up alone, but the girls reassure him. Monica gives Rachel Mr Heckles' amusing porno clock to compensate for the loss of the lamp.
end credits: Chandler has asked a girl out, but can't take his mind off her unusually large head.
