• The One where it all began (The Pilot)

Chandler has a disturbing dream about his mother, and Ross is depressed because Carol, his lesbian ex-wife, has just moved all her furniture out of his apartment. Rachel comes into Central Perk in a wet wedding dress and says that she left her fiance Barry at the altar because she realised she preferred a gravy boat to him, and that he looked like Mr Potato Head. She knows Monica and Ross from High School, and decides to move in with Monica. She phones her father, and tells him that she won't marry Barry, even though that means she won't get any more of his money.
Chandler and Joey help (?) Ross build his new furniture. Joey tells Ross to 'grab a spoon', i.e.. get over Carol and go out with someone new.
Monica has an ultimately disastrous date with Paul the Wine Guy.
Rachel finds out all the others have jobs, and determines to get one herself, but fails and gets a nice pair of boots instead. She is persuaded to destroy all her credit cards and start a new independent life.
Ross and Rachel are left alone in Monica's flat. Ross grabs a spoon.
end credits: Rachel has a job in Central Perk, Chandler's new dream is about Las Vegas.
