Joey is taking part in a fertility study, which means that he can't have sex with his current girlfriend Melanie, who makes fruit baskets. Ross is going to China for a week to sort out "a big bone thing". He wants to say goodbye to Rachel, but she's with Carl. Monica's organising a barbecue in the girls' flat as it's Rachel's birthday. Chandler tells Ross to forget about Rachel, and Ross gives Chandler a present to give to Rachel. At the barbecue, Joey is frustrated that he can't sleep with Melanie, and Monica suggests that he "be there for her", a phrase which is lost on Joey. Rachel opens her presents, and is overwhelmed by Ross's, which is a pin that Rachel had told Ross was like one her grandmother had worn. Chandler gives away Ross's feelings for Rachel and she doesn't know what to do, as she thinks of Ross only as a friend. She goes to the airport to try to talk to Ross before his flight leaves, but it's too late. Joey decides to go with Monica's advice, and Melanie thinks it's Christmas. Next day Chandler and Joey's flat is swamped with fruit. Rachel decides she wants to try dating Ross, then thinks she doesn't, but when she's with Carl, she realises she has feelings for Ross and rushes to the airport to meet Ross's incoming flight. But Ross is with another girl...
