Costarring:
Arye Gross as Michael
Lauren Tom as Julie
Chandler is insecure, and Phoebe's comment that she always feels like that when she's put on weight doesn't help. Monica offers to get him fit, as she is unemployed and has little else to do. They go running, but Chandler cheats by using a taxi. Phoebe's date Scott won't have sex with her. Rachel has a date with Michael, a recent divorcee, which Monica fixed up, even though Rachel is still hung up over Ross, who's getting a cat with Julie. Rachel and Michael have dinner. It's his first date after his divorce, but all Rachel can think about is Ross's cat. Phoebe thinks the reason Scott won't sleep with her is that she's not sexy enough, but Joey reassures her and says that she should ask him the reason. Rachel gets very drunk over dinner and, taking Michael's advice that the reason she feels bad about Ross is that she hasn't had closure, borrows someone's mobile phone and leaves a message on his answering machine. Chandler is sick of exercise and tries to get Monica to stop tormenting him. Rachel is very hung over the morning after her date and doesn't remember what happened at the restaurant, until Ross turns up at the flat and checks his messages... He doesn't know what to do, especially when Julie at the dooor interrupts them. Phoebe has finally had sex with Scott. Rachel is closing up at Central Perk when Ross comes in, angry because he was fine with Julie before he knew about Rachel's feelings, and she's angry with him for not saying how he felt sooner. But in one of the most pivotal scenes of the whole series they kiss.
end credits: Chandler rather cruelly depresses Monica so that he can go back to sleep and be spared any more exercise.
