Rachel's waitressing skills plumb new depths. Chandler is offered a promotion to data processing supervisor, but he turns it down and quits his job, because although he's been there five years, it was only meant to be a temporary job and he wants to do something extraordinary with his life. Phoebe's friend Steve wants a chef for his new restaurant, so Monica applies for the job. Chandler goes to see a career advisor, and finds that he is best suited to data processing. Monica invites Steve to her flat to try out her food. Ross has a date with Celia 'The Bug Lady', who is the curator of the insect section of his museum. Monica needs a waitress for Steve's visit so asks Wendy, who works with her, over Rachel. Celia wants Ross to talk dirty to her, but the only thing he can think of is 'vulva' so next day Joey convinces him to practise on him. Chandler's ex-boss keeps phoning him and eventually makes him an offer he can't refuse, with a huge office and secretary.
Wendy can't do the waitressing so Monica has to plead with Rachel. Steve and Phoebe arrive but he smoked a joint on the way over and becomes more out of it as the evening goes on, although Monica doesn't notice for a long time, despite Rachel's and Phoebe's gestures. Monica has to turn down the chef job, although it was what she was looking for. The others miss Chandler in Central Perk when he is working late at his new job.
