Germany
My favourite place in the world is Heidelberg, Germany, (actually, strictly speaking it's probably a tie with NYC) because it's just so entirely marvellous, with the castle, the cobbled streets, the wonderfully decorated prison, the river, the steep hills, the woodland paths (the best I've seen anywhere for running in, and I found some equipment to play on, and towers to climb) the quaint shops, the beautiful people, and the Olympic outdoor swimming pool. If I wasn't so bad at languages I'd be there tomorrow. Luckily a lot of people speak English, (I know it's just awful of me not to try German) and also there's a cinema which shows movies without subtitles. Last week (July 99) I found out Steffi Graf lives there (among other places) and that doesn't surprise me a bit. I was in Heidelberg for three days in August 1997, and it's the closest I've been to heaven on Earth. Incidentally it was while I was there that I resolved to go to New York.
