Sandra Soundbites
Sandra says that being a star has killed her
love life: "I can't help but think that men might only be interested in me
because I'm famous. You don't know what their intention is. It's a frightening
thing and I'm not very trusting in that area anyway. I was devastated when my
high school sweetheart cheated on me, and I've never really got over it."
Sandra loves Salsa dancing: "I feel
sexiest when you give me a dance floor, a great R&B tune, a partner I
really click with, when I get sweaty and dance all night. That to me is the
sexiest thing in the whole world, because dancing makes me feel free. At the
end of every week I throw on a pair of jeans, take my hair down, and find
someplace just to dance, even if it's by myself. That's my therapy. The only
thing is that it has to be great music. I stick to R&B and soul, funk and
salsa. As a kid I did ballet, but it was too reserved. Now I love slow,
rhythmic songs; my favourite song in the whole world is D'Angelo's "Brown
Sugar". When that comes on, everyone knows to back off, because I get into
Sandy's world and I'm gone. Actually, when I'm dancing, every tune is Sandy
time, and anyone who wants can come along. Even on location, my trailer is
always full, and always rocking."
Sandra on men: "There's something sexy
about a gut, not a 400-pound beer gut, but a little paunch"
Sandra on the Internet: "When I first got
on the Net, I could never get anyone to respond. And I'd feel like: 'Hello,
Hello! Doesn't what I have to say matter to anyone out there?'"
Sandra on director Jan De Bont, who fought with
Fox to cast her in Speed: "The guy inspires to create or to kill. In the
middle of the film you ask everybody if they'd work with Jan again and it's,
like, 'No. Never again.' And I'm, like, 'You know what? Y'all would.'
"
Sandra on her school days: "I had a
tendency to talk back a lot. I got kicked out of a lot of classes for
questioning authority."
