Malware

Malware (Malicious Logic Software): noted for being utterly over-hyped and in many cases non-existent.
There are four main types:

• Virus - a piece of software that replicates itself, and doesn't necessarily do any damage. There are three kinds:
  • File virus
  • Boot virus
  • Macro virus
• Worm - these are spread out over networks eg. Happy99
• Trojan (or Trojan Horse) - malware that doesn't replicate itself, but is set to do something at a particular time, or when the user does something.
• Dropper - this is a program that contains a virus, and is used to distribute it.

Malware can be contained in .exe, .com, .bat, .doc, and .xls files.

Virus Hoaxes - these are funny

I used to get loads of these sorts of messages - well maybe not quite so obvious ones- when I was at University. Usually when it got to me it had been to about 100 people. People just will not be told that it's rubbish.
