Monica is Ross's sister and went to the same high school (Lincoln High School) as Rachel. She used to be fat until she overheard Chandler telling Ross in 1986 that he didn't want to be left alone with Ross's fat sister. She then lost about 10 stone in one year to get back at him. She is obsessive about cleanliness and following the rules, and nothing she does can please her mother. She's very sporty, plays tennis and has tried to get Chandler fit in the past, to no avail. |
| -------------- | Dates/ Partners. This reads like a catalogue of disasters. Mind you, her latest relationship (with Chandler) seems to be going OK. Why she didn't go out with him at the start I do NOT know.
When Joey first moved in to share with Chandler Monica had a crush on him but when she asked him across to her flat he got the wrong idea and removed all his clothes while she was pouring the drinks. Since then they've just been friends.
Paul tells Monica that since his last relationship broke up, two years before, he has been unable to perform sexually. Unbelievably, this line works and he spends the night with her. Next day at work however, her co-worker, on discovering that Monica has slept with Paul, says that before she was with Paul (a few weeks before), he hadn't been perform for years. Whoops. He gets off easy, with just a broken watch. Cue a classic line from Ross: Alan is actually a damn fine bloke, but Monica doesn't want the others to meet him because they were so critical of a former boyfriend called Steve who had a lisp. They do meet him, and like him, in fact much more than Monica does. Rachel, Ross, Chandler and Joey play softball with him, and he helps Chandler stop smoking. When Monica dumps him, he says he's glad in a way because although he liked Monica he couldn't stand her friends! They however are all affected deeply by the breakup. Fun Bobby is a former boyfriend who Monica asks to her New Year's Eve Party in episode 1.10. Normally he's the life and soul of the party but his grandfather died two hours before the party so he is transformed into Chronically Depressed Bobby. In episode 2.10 he is once again Fun Bobby, but this is only when he's totally bladdered. Monica gets hims to stop drinking, but this makes him so boring that she is driven to drink herself. Fun Bobby breaks up with her because he thinks she has a drinking problem and doesn't want to be in a co-dependant relationship. "Young" Ethan is supposedly a College Senior, but turns out to be a 17 year old High School student. Monica breaks it off, because "it's icky".
Monica sees Jean-Claude on the set of Marcel's movie, but she's too scared to talk to him so Rachel does on her behalf but he asks Rachel out instead. Rachel and Monica physically fight over him and Rachel agrees to finish with him, only to have the last laugh by telling Jean-Claude that Monica wanted a threesome with Drew Barrymore. Dr Richard Burke is a friend of Monica's father so needless to say the age gap is somewhat significant. That doesn't stop them having a great time until episode 2.24 when Richard says that he will have a baby with her if she really wants to, but he doesn't really want to. But she wants to be with someone who wants to have a baby. Oh dear. Next! (Aside- They meet again in episode 3.13) He's a millionaire who loves Monica and gets her a job at a shiny new restaurant, which is good. He's a nutter who insists on trying to become the Ultimate Fighting Champion, which is not. Monica breaks it off because she doesn't like to see him getting hurt and he won't quit.
He was at High School with Rachel and Monica, and years later, in this episode, he's still working at the same place (a cinema, which he likes because he can get free popcorn). Monica dumps him, even though she had wanted him during High School, because he hasn't grown up and because he dumped Rachel before.
Richard's son. They kiss but he reminds her of Richard. Gruesome.
Nice one. I just hope it lasts. |
