Phoebe had a very disturbing upbringing. Her best friend Debbie was struck by lightning on a miniature golf course, her father (Frank) left home, her adoptive mother (Lily) killed herself and because her stepfather was in prison, she lived rough on the streets before becoming an aromatherapist. She plays the guitar badly and sings even more badly, mostly about her mother's death, but always very inappropriate songs. In episode 2.21 Phoebe meets her half-brother Frank Jr and later acts as a surrogate mother for him and his older partner Alice. |
Dates/ Partners:
Tony doesn't really appear very much, he's just someone that Phoebe breaks up with to make it easier for Chandler to break up with Janice. David is a physicist who sees Phoebe performing in Central Perk and argues with his fellow scientist Max about whether she's the most beautiful woman they've ever seen. Phoebe is angry with them for interrupting her but when she finds out the reason she starts going out with David. David gets a grant to go and work in Minsk for three years. At first he doesn't want to go because of her, and she doesn't want him to, but then on New Years's Eve she realises that his career is more important than staying with her so convinces him to go, and they say goodbye before midnight on New Year's Eve, because she doesn't want them to start the year together if they can't finish it. Roger in a psychiatrist who starts analysing everyone as soon as he meets them. He thinks that Chandler has an intimacy problem so uses his humour to keep people at a distance, and that Ross engineered his marriage to fail by marrying a lesbian in order to make up for Monica's failures. All true no doubt, but no one can stand him anyway except Phoebe. But when she tells him that her friends don't like him, he lays into them and she realises he's a bit nasty and dumps him. He asks her out again on Valentine's Day in episode 1.14 but she won't because he's too creepy. Phoebe marries Duncan so that he can get a green card. He's Canadian and is meant to be gay, so Phoebe is upset to find out that he isn't, and that he wants a divorce to marry another woman; especially as she had feeelings for him herself. Scott won't have sex with Phoebe, and she thinks it's because she's not sexy enough. But when she takes Joey's advice and asks him why, he rather impressively (especially to Joey) gets her to beg for sex with no commitment or need to call her again, and he fools her into thinking this is a good thing for her. Rob asks Phoebe to play some songs for children at a school, because he's seen her perform and thinks she's great, although he likes her more than her music. They kiss twice, but Phoebe's songs, although truthful, are too controversial for some parents, and she is fired. Ryan is a naval officer on a submarine and an old boyfriend. When he arrives on leave to see Phoebe she has chicken pox, and he gets it too, but they don't care. big gap- sorry |
