Things that scare me (in dramatically decreasing order of importance):
- Murder- especially when it done in the name of religion. As far as I
know there is no religion which advocates murder, in fact most of them are
explicitly against it. I believe that murder can never be justified.
- Removal of rights
- I believe that people should be free to hold whatever beliefs (religious,
political or otherwise) they want without fear of persecution. For this reason
I am an member of Amnesty International. People should not be detained without
trial and without committing any crime, as is happening now in Britain and
America. People should also be allowed to protest peacefully.
- Apathy, blind faith in media
- Too many people, as long as they have their television and sports, do not
much care what happens in the world. Or if they do, then very few people will
actually take action. Also people accept things without question.
- Surveillance- as typically performed by Governments
(speed/surveillance cameras, Internet/ phone logging, identity cards etc.) I
think this is an invasion of the rights and privacy of individuals. Such
schemes are also open to abuse.
- Political correctness, revisionist history
- Advertising - especially targeted advertising
